Signs of Hearing Loss

   Hearing Loss in Children

Some children are born with hearing loss, and some acquire hearing loss through illness or injury. Most childhood hearing loss is due to middle ear problems, and generally this loss is outgrown. Signs of hearing loss in children may include:

  • Lack of Response to environmental sounds
  • Unclear or Delayed speech

   Hearing Loss in Adults

Most adults develop a hearing loss sometime in their lifetimes. Common acquired causes are disease or injury to the ear, mechanical issues, noise-induced, or presbycusis (normal ageing process). Signs of hearing loss include:

  • Inability to understand in groups or in the presence of background noise
  • Mishearing conversation
  • Difficulty on the phone or watching TV
